Post Wedding Spending

You’ve just got married and moved in together to a new place: would you splurge on buying new furniture, like sofas, or try to fit the old stuff in?

When my husband and I got married, we never bought new stuff at first; in fact we spent the first few weeks on huge pillows on the floor! However, that was 13 years ago, when sofas were much more expensive than they are today. There were hardly any sales on back then, like today for instance everywhere you look there is a half price sale or some trade in offer. Also ?500 13 years ago was a lot of money, today it is virtually nothing.

If I were to get married today I think I would purchase new items more so than years ago, these would include items such as a sofa, because you can get some good deals. Television would be new because of the new up and coming change over to digital. Electrical equipment was all new because of the good deals today including the guarantee. In fact the only time I wouldn’t buy new items for the home is if an item was handed down to me from a family member, and even then it would have to fit in with my home.

Most Kitchens today are fitted; therefore it is unlikely your old cooker or fridge freezer will fit into the allocated kitchen space, so their maybe a need to buy yourself new kitchen facilities. And the temptation of cookers being removed and CORGI fitted free of charge is a temptation to purchase a new one. All of my pots and pans would of course come with me.

I think with all the offers and new technology today, more and more people are choosing new items, and selling on their old items. It is unfortunate as soon as you buy an upgraded item; it is outdated within a year. But at least you are secure with the knowledge most new items have a two plus year guarantee and will last you for many years.

How amazing is this venue? We’re in love. They had their wedding in the stone ruins of an old winery built in the late 1800’s. Doesn’t it feel a little like the european countryside?

Make a good impression with your wedding invitatio

Make a good impression with your wedding invitation wording by Clint Jhonson

Wedding stationery makes the most important factor of the impression people will make on the upcoming wedding. For instance, the decision for attending the wedding can largely depend on the design and content of the wedding invitations. They should offer to the receiver a complete visualization of your plans. This is why wedding stationery is a significant stage in the wedding planning.

Wedding stationery must go along with the overall style of the wedding. For instance, in the case of fancy weddings, you should choose an elegant invitation. If you have a wedding on the beach, elegant invitations are not suitable and they would send the wrong message to the receiver. For beach weddings, the wardrobe of all the guests should be casual and the invitation should convey such a message.

Choosing wedding stationery and other wedding accessories involves some steps. For example, in the case of wedding invitations, you must choose the paper on which you will print them. There are many types of paper with different thicknesses. You can choose to fold the invitations or to keep them stand-alone. If you want to go with the second option, then a good thick paper is suited, but if you want to fold them, then you should consider using a thinner piece of paper. The invitations (and other wedding accessories) should go along with the style of the wedding so you can choose tri-fold, bi-fold, single sheet, but be sure that the choice you make is the appropriate one for you.

A very important component of wedding invitations is wording. It starts with choosing a font for the invitations. The font you choose should demand attention. It should also be in tone with the ceremony, as the overall style of the invitations should, but you should also choose one that you both love. The font should also match your personalities. All the aspects involved in a wedding should match in order to create the impression of total harmony, exactly as you want to spend the rest of your lives.

Wedding invitation wording may consist of a special quotation or poem, personal thoughts from the heart or playing around with words, even using rhymes, something suited for those who plan a casual and fun wedding. The creativity of the wedding invitation wording may come from the common interests of the couple, the exotic location of the wedding or the design and theme of the wedding.

Traditional wedding invitation wording may consist of a gracious request for the honor of presence that the couple sends to the receivers. It if often the case when, if the wedding services are held in a church or a synagogue, the spelling of the word honor will be ‘honour’, as it is spelled in British. This type of wording is preferred if the wedding is formal. For less formal weddings, the wedding invitation wording should send a request for the pleasure of one’s presence or an invitation to celebrate a couple’s joyous occasion. Without a doubt, the wording you choose will help the receivers know the dress code that they need to follow.

You can choose to follow the expert invitation etiquette or you can follow your own personal style. Usually, this is established according to the style of the wedding, whether it is formal or casual. Regardless of your choice, traditions that couples have already tried are worth examining.

Samples of wedding invitation wording are available over the Internet. Here, on kardella.com, you can find some inspiration for developing the wording for your invitations. Here you can also find wedding invitations in different styles and choose the one that is best suited for you.

First impressions always matter. The choice of wedding stationery builds the basis for the first impressions on a wedding. Wedding invitation wording is an important component of wedding invitations. Choose it wisely in order to create the best impressions.

invite inspiration from Pica Press

Remember those cute address stickers we’re giving away (through Urbanic Paper Boutique) in our DIY contest that ends today? (hint, hint). They’re from Pica Press. And look what new things they’ve been working on:

picapress1

picapress2

Pica does really fun custom design (as evidenced by the work above)… and even though some of those are baby announcements, we’re thinking they’re definitely hip enough to be used for a party or wedding invitation. With different copy, of course. Love the bright colors. Weddings don’t always have to be pretty poofs and petals. But you all already knew that.

Don’t forget: Contest ends tonight, midnight PST. We’ll be up, monitoring the submissions as they come in for sure. Happy Weekend.

As excited as the bride could be for her wedding, there is also one other person who equally feels the same way – the mother of the bride. It may have been years since her wedding day, but that same intense feeling she felt way back then has suddenly sprang to life.

From the day the engagement was announced to the wedding day, the mother of the bride can be seen standing right beside her daughter trying to help in every way possible. She is as busy with the wedding details that her daughter might have missed along the way. But with all these, the mother of the bride shouldn’t forget to make her own preparations, especially on her dress.

The bride is most likely to be bringing along her mother and a couple of friends when she goes out to look for her dress. This would be a lovely time for the mother of the bride to spot those potential dresses that might look good on her for the wedding day.

There are bridal shops that do not only offer wedding dresses but they also have a selection for mother of the bride dresses. Shops like Best for Bride, has a wide range of mother of the bride dresses as well. They have been in the business for a long time, so they can help you in matching and complementing dresses.

Mother of the bride dresses doesn’t have to be a telltale of age. In Best for Bride, you can choose among the many dresses that exudes style and elegance. There are creations that will accent every figure and skin color.

Worrying of embarrassment from wardrobe malfunction is highly reduced when you have mother of the bride dresses from Best for Bride. The dresses here are made of excellent quality fabric and sewed into perfection by skilled and experienced dressmakers.

The mother of the bride dress should complement the dresses of the bridesmaid and the bride’s. It is a good idea to consult the daughter for her thoughts on it to give direction on what color and style the mother should be picking out when she shops for her dress.

DIY soaps for your bridesmaids + our first giveawa

And when we say “your bridesmaids” we mean YOUR bridesmaids. That’s where the giveaway thing comes in, but more on that later. Let’s do the project first because it’s so cute!

diy_soap3

We are so so excited about our soaps. First, because it’s fun doing an afternoon project with friends. And second, because we learned that soap making is WAY more creative than we anticipated. We’re thinking this would be a really fun project to do at a bridal shower. Everyone likes an activity and making soap is so easy that anyone (no matter how old or young) can take part. The soaps can set while the bride is opening gifts and then guests get a little handmade favor to take away from the party.

diy_soap4

Here’s what you need for the project:

Soap base (available at Michaels). We used the goat milk base for ours.
Soap molds (also from Michaels).
Herbs, oats, tea, essential oil, anything you want to use to flavor your soap.

The creative part was rummaging through Kristina’s garden and kitchen cupboards looking for fun combinations for our soaps. We decided to make three flavors:

Lavendar Oatmeal (fresh lavender flowers, lavender essential oil, oats)
Chai Tea (steeped tea for color and scent, plus dry loose tea for a little texture)
Chamomile Calendula (dried chamomile and calendula flowers)

Here’s what you do:

1. Melt soap base (stirring often over medium heat)
2. Add “seasonings”
3. Mix well and long enough for flavors to distribute evenly
4. Pour liquid soap into molds
5. Uncork champagne and enjoy the afternoon waiting for your soaps to set!

diy_soap5

Once your soaps have set (overnight, or we found you can refrigerate them for a few hours), you have to package them in maximum cuteness. We wrapped ours in unbleached parchment paper (in the same way you’d wrap a gift), then added a band of vintage wallpaper for decoration. We made tags using a grocery bag and a 1 1/2 inch tag punch, and tied them on with baker’s twine.

diy_soap1
diy_soap2

Now the giveaway part. Yay! Over our WELL DESERVED glasses of champagne, we had a genius idea. Give our soaps away to one of our readers so she can give them to her maids! Tell us something unique you’re doing or did with your bridesmaids, (we don’t want to leave out any former brides out there), and we’ll pick a comment that we think provides great inspiration to our readers. We’ll announce our winner next Monday and send off the soaps shortly after.
